Douglas R. Wight is an associate in the Tampa office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. Mr. Wight has practiced in the areas of insurance defense since 1993. His practice is emphasized in the areas of general and professional liability, dental malpractice, first and third party property damage, insurance coverage disputes, policy interpretation, and the application of policy exclusion arising from a variety of insurance products including general liability, motor vehicle liability, and premises liability.

Mr. Wight began his legal career in 1981 with a Texas law firm specializing in maritime and admiralty law; he has practiced in the area of insurance defense since 1993. Mr. Wight has been involved in a variety of trial proceedings and has an extensive trial practice accounting for approximately 45 trials in the U.S. District Courts for the Middle District of Florida; Hillsborough County, Florida Circuit Court; Sarasota County, Florida Circuit Court; Manatee County, and Florida Circuit Court; and in Texas, in Harris County, Texas District; and U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern District of Texas.

Mr. Wight has represented clients in civil trials and appellate proceedings in a range of contexts including litigation and casualty matters pertaining to automobile liability, liquor vendor litigation, premises liability, slip and fall, wrongful death litigation in various contexts, first and third party property damage matters, and civil rights litigation.   

He is also experienced in briefing and arguing state and federal appeals:

  • United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and United States Supreme Court in Watkins v. Pentzien, Inc., 1981
  • United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in Bishop v. B.J.J. Brake Co., Inc., 1986
  • United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Tanker Management, Inc. v. Brunson, 1990

Mr. Wight earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center in 1981 and Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University.

Mr. Wight is licensed to practice law in Florida and is a member of The Florida Bar. He is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida; the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits.  Mr. Wight is an inactive member of the State Bars of New York and the Texas.
