Abigail "Abbey" N. Kapitan is an associate in the Chicago Hub of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. Ms. Kapitan handles matters involving civil defense litigation, defending clients in wrongful death claims, correctional facility and civil rights actions, premises liability disputes, auto accident cases, and fire and explosion litigation. Her experience further extends to residential and commercial foreclosure matters and bankruptcy-related proceedings, where she supports lenders and corporate clients in protecting their legal and financial interests.
Ms. Kapitan has built a career rooted in defending correctional institutions and corporate clients, handling complex liability claims and high-stakes litigation. Her experience includes representing clients in both state and federal court across a range of issues including commercial lines, transportation defense, and personal injury.
During law school, Ms. Kapitan served as an Articles Editor for the Indiana Law Journal and worked as a Research Assistant for Professor Aviva Orenstein. She was actively involved in several organizations, including the Intellectual Property Association and Chiefs in Intellectual Property (ChIP's), and volunteered with the Incarcerated Individuals Legal Assistance Program.
Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Kapitan gained valuable insight as a legal intern at the Lake County Superior Court in Indiana and Indiana University Health. She also served as a legal apprentice where she assisted in drafting briefs, legal research, and case preparation.
Ms. Kapitan earned her Juris Doctor from Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 2024, a Master of Science in 2021, and a Bachelor of Science degree in 2020 from the University of Notre Dame.
Licensed to practice law in Illinois, Ms. Kapitan is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association. Outside of the office, she enjoys Notre Dame football, watching true crime documentaries, and spending time with her cat, Peanut.
