J. Andrew "Andy" Talbert is managing partner in the Pensacola office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. Focusing on civil litigation for nearly 20 years, his areas of practice encompass all facets of insurance and general liability defense in both state and federal courts including the defense of personal injury and wrongful death claims, premises liability, negligent security, employment law claims, automobile liability, personal injury protection (PIP) claims, nursing home defense litigation, admiralty claims, product liability, toxic tort litigation, construction litigation, insurance coverage disputes and bad faith litigation. Mr. Talbert has achieved an AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review rating from Martindale Hubbell Law Directory.
Prior to joining QPWB, Mr. Talbert was a shareholder with the law firm of Bozeman, Jenkins and Matthews, P.A. in Pensacola, Florida. Before entering private practice, Mr. Talbert served on active duty in the United States Navy as a lawyer with the Judge Advocate General Corps (JAG) from 1989-1997. He tried his first murder case at the age of 26 and became death penalty certified by the U.S. Navy JAG Corps. By 1997, Mr. Talbert had served as lead counsel in more than 60 jury trials, 100 bench trials and 180 administrative proceedings. He served as both senior trial counsel and senior defense counsel during assignments both within the Continental U.S. and abroad. Mr. Talbert continues to serve in the U.S. Navy Reserve. After completing his second assignment as Commanding Officer in the Reserves, "Captain" Talbert was recently selected and sworn in as Military Judge, augmenting the active duty judiciary by presiding as the Trial Judge over Special and General Courts-Martial.
Mr. Talbert received his Juris Doctor from T.C. William School of Law in Richmond, Virginia in 1989 and a Bachelor of Arts from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1986 majoring in Spanish. While in law school, he was awarded the American Jurisprudence award for excellent achievement in the study of criminal law.
Mr. Talbert is licensed to practice law in Florida and Virginia. He is a member of The Florida Bar and the Virginia State Bar, and is also admitted in the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Middle Districts of Florida, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. Mr. Talbert is also a member of the Escambia/Santa Rosa Bar Association, American Inns of Court, and Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute.
