Byron R. Cornwell is a partner in the Jacksonville office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. Mr. Cornwell has practiced as a litigator for over 30 years, focusing his practice in the areas of liability defense, general civil liability, commercial litigation, and personal injury.
Prior to joining QPWB, Mr. Cornwell was employed for several years by several highly regarded law firms in the West Palm Beach area, including Jones, Foster, Johnston & Stubbs, P.A., and Tobin & Reyes, P.A., practicing primarily in the areas of commercial litigation and liability defense. Subsequently, as a solo practitioner in both the West Palm Beach and Jacksonville areas, Mr. Cornwell provided his services as of counsel to several south Florida firms and a large Massachusetts defense firm, primarily handling the defense of premises liability and automobile accident cases.
Mr. Cornwell has extensive experience handling insurance defense litigation, commercial cases and has also representing municipalities involving high profile constitutional issues, public records law, and numerous other issues arising as a result of municipal action. Additionally, Mr. Cornwell has represented Florida East Coast Railroad, Daily's Convenience Stores, big-box retailers, major supermarket chains, and numerous municipalities, primarily in the defense of personal injury actions. He has also practiced employment law and has represented plaintiffs in personal injury law and landlord-tenant cases. His practice in commercial litigation has included contract disputes, claims involving breach of contract, construction lien enforcement, claims of fraud, partnership disputes, real estate disputes, lease disputes, debtor-creditor disputes, and commercial landlord/tenant disputes.
Mr. Cornwell received his Juris Doctor, with honors, from the University of Florida College of Law in May 1989 and his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from Florida State University in May 1984, graduating with a double major in English and business.
Mr. Cornwell is licensed to practice law in Florida and has been a member of The Florida Bar since 1990.
