Dwayne L. Bentley is an associate in the New York hub of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. Mr. Bentley is a seasoned Intellectual Property (IP) attorney with over a decade of experience in patent law, trademarks, copyrights, and IP litigation. He has represented clients in both public and private sectors, successfully litigating cases in Federal Courts, the Supreme Court, and before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Mr. Bentley's practice focuses on portfolio management, having overseen more than 100 patents and patent applications, and providing strategic counsel on a wide range of IP and civil matters.
Mr. Bentley's strong background in engineering and knowledge of intellectual property matters spans various technical domains. He has drafted and prosecuted patents in areas such as electrical, mechanical, and software inventions. Additionally, his production of high-quality patent applications has established him as a leader in the IP field. His dedication to client success, coupled with his litigation practice, makes him a trusted partner for clients seeking protection and enforcement of their intellectual property rights.
Throughout his career, Dwayne has served in key legal roles, including as a Prosecutor with the Civilian Complaint Review Board and as Assistant Attorney General for the U.S. Department of Justice in the Virgin Islands. He has also held leadership positions in IP law at GE Healthcare and his own firm, DL Bentley Law Group PLLC, where he worked on significant patent applications and litigations. His expertise spans industries, from mechanical and electrical systems to life sciences, and his experience includes managing IP portfolios, drafting complex legal agreements, and handling high-stakes negotiations.
While earning his Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law in 1998, Mr. Bentley received the Law, Technology & Management Certificate and was recognized on the Dean's List. In 1995, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Morgan State University, where he was a four-year Honors Scholarship recipient.
Licensed to practice law in the State of New York, the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, Mr. Bentley is also admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), where he has held his Registration Number since 2000. His experience at the USPTO includes serving as a Patent Examiner in the Semiconductor Devices division (Group Art Unit 2814), where he examined patent applications in classes 257 and 438 from 1998 to 1999.
Mr. Bentley further enhanced his leadership skills in 2023 by completing the New York University Executive Leadership Summit in Florence, Italy. This certification highlights his dedication to professional growth and staying ahead in leadership within the industry.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Bentley has been actively involved in organizations such as Sponsors for Educational Opportunity and is a proud member of the New York City Mason at Composite Lodge 819.
