Erik C. Stein is a senior partner in the Traverse City Hub and practices out of the Columbus hub of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. Mr. Stein's practice is centered on complex civil litigation matters, including fires and explosions, EVs and lithium ion batteries, personal injury protection (PIP), premises liability, transportation defense, construction disputes, environmental law, employment litigation, product liability, and real estate litigation. He also handles professional liability matters, including professional malpractice, director and officer defense, insurance coverage litigation, toxic torts, wrongful death defense, insurance fraud, and a wide range of liability and breach of contract disputes.
Mr. Stein is a Pro Board-certified fire cause and origin investigator, which enhances his ability to analyze and defend against claims involving fire, explosion, and environmental liability.
Skilled and experienced in employment litigation, Mr. Stein represents clients in federal and state courts in matters involving age and sex discrimination, wrongful termination, and other employment-related claims.
In addition to litigation, Mr. Stein has deep experience in bankruptcy proceedings under Chapters 7 and 13, representing both debtors and creditors in contested and adversarial matters.
Mr. Stein has held a Michigan Real Estate Broker's license and has developed continuing education programs for real estate professionals and advises clients on lease disputes, policy development, and property management issues. He is also familiar with the professional obligations of real estate professionals.
As a seasoned litigator, Mr. Stein is licensed in Michigan, Ohio, multiple federal jurisdictions, the U.S. Tax Court, and various bankruptcy courts. With his diverse experience in many facets of law, he is known for his results-oriented approach and has secured favorable outcomes at all stages of litigation. His track record includes trying cases to verdict, obtaining summary disposition in no-fault cases involving rideshare exclusions, achieving pre-suit resolutions in environmental claims concerning diesel fuel contamination, and resolving conflict of law issues in claims crossing state lines. He has also successfully guided wrongful death and minor settlements through Michigan's probate courts.
Mr. Stein earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Toledo College of Law with a concentration in Environmental Law and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University. While in law school, he chaired the Moot Court Team, competed in national environmental law competitions, and was inducted into the Order of the Barristers. He also interned with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, where he focused on litigation involving land use and water quality matters.
Mr. Stein is an active member of the State Bar of Michigan and the International Association of Arson Investigators.
