George L. Fernandez is a partner in the Miami office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. Mr. Fernandez is an accomplished trial lawyer with expertise in civil litigation. He has been Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Florida Bar Board of Legal Education and Specialization since 2001. He is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and, since 1997, has maintained an AV Peer Review rating in the Martindale Hubbell Law Directory. Mr. Fernandez's practice is emphasized in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, construction law, aviation, and commercial litigation. He has handled and tried various multimillion-dollar claims involving catastrophic injuries such as brain injury, paralysis, and death. In 2011, the South Florida Legal Guide recognized him as a Top South Florida Lawyer in the area of insurance litigation.
Mr. Fernandez regularly represents an array of participants in construction litigation and roadway construction site claims. He handles a myriad of issues arising from construction-related accidents including highway design flaws, engineering defects, construction, and maintenance of traffic. He is certified by the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) in Advanced Maintenance of Traffic.
Prior to joining QPWB, Mr. Fernandez served as a name partner of a South Florida civil litigation firm known for its insurance defense practice. For over twenty years, he has tried and mediated numerous cases with favorable results in all areas of his practice, representing clients in a wide spectrum of matters in both state and federal courts, as well as in arbitration and mediation.
Mr. Fernandez received his Juris Doctor from Florida State University School of Law in 1992 and Bachelor of Science from Florida State University in 1990, where he was honored with induction into Gold Key's Hall of Fame. During law school, he served as attorney general and vice president of the moot court team. He also served on the mock trial team and placed first during the Kerrigan, Estess Mock Trial Competition, and in the semi-finals in the Florida Bar State Bar Competition and the Southeast Regional Competition.
Mr. Fernandez is licensed to practice law in Florida and is a member of The Florida Bar. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida and U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and is a Certified Circuit Court Mediator by the Florida Supreme Court.
Mr. Fernandez is a member of the Defense Research Institute (DRI), Dade County Bar Association, National Hispanic Bar Association, Cuban American Bar Association, Florida Defense Lawyers Association, and Florida Transportation Builder's Association. He served on the Florida Bar Civil Procedure Rules Committee and as past Chair of the Florida Bar Grievance Committee (11J).
Mr. Fernandez served on the Board of Directors of the Lawyer's Credit Union in Miami, Florida from 1996 to 1999.
Mr. Fernandez is fluent in Spanish.
