James "Jim" A. Crocker is the managing partner of the Grand Rapids Hub of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. Known for his work in catastrophic injury, wrongful death, and Michigan No-Fault matters, Mr. Crocker is frequently called upon in complex cases involving professional liability, product defect, and PIP disputes. He brings many years of experience defending high-exposure litigation across the transportation, insurance, and public entity sectors. His ability to navigate both trial and appellate courts with confidence has earned him a reputation as a dependable problem-solver for insurers, self-insureds, and national transportation companies.
Early in his career, Mr. Crocker served as in-house counsel for one of the world's top freight carriers, managing litigation and risk on a national scale. He has handled cases in state and federal courts across North America, including Canadian provincial jurisdictions, and has advised C-suite executives on regulatory developments, industry trends, and strategic litigation avoidance. His insight into the intersection of operational risk and legal exposure continues to shape the way large entities approach litigation preparedness and defense.
Equally comfortable in front of a jury as he is in the field, Mr. Crocker is certified by the Michigan State Police and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (ProBoard) as a Fire Investigator. His experience conducting on-site investigations in the immediate aftermath of fires, explosions, and transportation accidents gives his clients a critical advantage in evidence preservation and early case assessment. His litigation background also includes defending Section 1983 claims, municipal liability, environmental exposure, and civil rights violations.
Mr. Crocker earned his Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Grand Valley State University. He is admitted to practice in the State of Michigan and before the U.S. District Courts for both the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan. His professional affiliations include the Trucking Industry Defense Association (TIDA), Transportation Lawyers Association (TLA), ALFA International, and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.
