James Hughes is an associate in the Atlanta Hub of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A., primarily representing clients in the areas of insurance defense, including motor vehicle liability, underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage, commercial trucking, and premises liability. His experience extends to managing complex caseloads, preparing pleadings, drafting motions, conducting depositions, and defending clients in high-exposure litigation.
Mr. Hughes has been responsible for overseeing a caseload of 50 active cases, handling all aspects of litigation from pre-suit investigation to trial preparation. He has successfully argued motions before the court, including a Motion to Dismiss that was granted after oral arguments. In that case, the court held that the plaintiffs failed to exercise reasonable diligence in perfecting service beyond the limitations period, as the client was served six days after the statutory deadline.
Mr. Hughes earned his Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2022, where he was a Dean's Scholar, receiving a full scholarship. During law school, he was a staff member for the Wake Forest Journal of Business & Intellectual Property Law and contributed to Awaken: The Creative Journal of Contemporary Bioethics.
Before law school, Mr. Hughes graduated magna cum laude from the University of New Mexico, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History in just three years. He was awarded the Amigo Scholarship and participated in the UNM State Legislative Internship program, where he gained valuable insight into legislative processes and policy development.
