Jan Buyers is a partner in the Jacksonville Hub of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A., bringing over three decades of trial and litigation experience. Ms. Buyers has an extensive background in insurance defense, civil litigation, and employment law, successfully representing clients in complex cases involving premises liability, automotive accidents, and negligent security.
Throughout her career, Ms. Buyers has tried numerous cases across Florida, appearing in Duval, St. Johns, Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and surrounding counties. She has obtained defense verdicts, directed verdicts, and favorable settlements for her clients, demonstrating a strong ability to navigate the intricacies of litigation from pre-trial strategy through verdict.
Before joining QPWB, Ms. Buyers served as a trial attorney for major insurance companies, where she managed high-volume caseloads ranging from 30 to 60 active cases at any given time. In this role, she worked closely with claims professionals, risk managers, and corporate executives nationwide, providing legal guidance on back injury claims, settlements involving minors, and negligence investigations.
Ms. Buyers has also represented clients in employment-related disputes, including EEOC complaints and state and federal litigation involving claims of racial discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliatory discharge, ADA violations, and age discrimination. Her deep understanding of labor law, combined with her trial experience, makes her a formidable force in employment-related litigation.
In addition to her trial work, Ms. Buyers has provided training and presentations to insurance professionals, helping them navigate evolving legal standards and mitigate litigation risks. She is recognized for her strategic approach to case management.
Ms. Buyers earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Florida College of Law and holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Florida. She is licensed to practice in Florida and admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
