Joan R. Stohl is a partner in the Chicago office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A., and Chair of the Long-Term Care Practice Group.  Ms. Stohl defends physicians, dentists, nurses, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and long-term care facilities.  She has litigated medical and dental malpractice, skilled nursing and long-term care matters for over 21 years and has taken numerous medical malpractice and other personal injury matters to jury verdict as first and second chair. Ms. Stohl handles all aspects of medical and dental malpractice, skilled nursing and long-term care litigation from intake to verdict and appeal.  At the appellate level, Ms. Stohl has authored briefs which have prevailed in the Illinois Appellate Court and Illinois Supreme Court.  Prior to joining QPWB, Ms. Stohl was a partner with a multi-state general practice law firm headquartered in Chicago.

Ms. Stohl is singularly adept at obtaining no-pay dismissals on motion practice. She has successfully achieved summary judgment for a hospital on the issue of apparent agency. Through motion practice at trial, Ms. Stohl has obtained an order barring her opponent's expert, thereby compelling the plaintiff to voluntarily dismiss the lawsuit.

Ms. Stohl received her Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago in 1990 and Bachelor of Arts from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois in 1987 with majors in Political Science and Speech Communications/Theatre, and a minor in English.  While in law school, she served as contributing editor of the DePaul Journal of Health and Hospital Law and competed in the Intramural Moot Court and Model United Nations program.

Ms. Stohl is licensed to practice law in Illinois and is also admitted in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and U.S. Tax Court.  She is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, and Chicago Healthcare Risk Management Society (CHRMS).

Ms. Stohl has written, lectured, and provided CLE courses on various topics regarding medical malpractice.

Ms. Stohl has served as a volunteer for Misericordia.  She has also acted as a judge for the Chicago Debate League of the Chicago Public Schools and DePaul University College of Law Moot Court competition.
