F. John Caldwell Jr. is an associate in the Tampa office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. Mr. Caldwell has established himself as a highly accomplished trial attorney. He brings extensive experience to his civil litigation practice, having handled an array of cases encompassing areas such as insurance defense, vaccine injuries, medical malpractice, environmental law, construction defects, premises liability, personal injury defense, commercial litigation, class actions, civil rights, and patent infringement.
With a legal career spanning more than three decades, Mr. Caldwell has successfully litigated over 50 cases, including numerous jury trials, demonstrating his proficiency and expertise in the courtroom. Over the years, he has proudly helped his clients collectively obtain hundreds of millions of dollars in compensation. He conducts extensive expert discovery, trial work, and forensic economic analyses, resulting in significant awards for his clients. Most notably, Mr. Caldwell was an integral part in obtaining a $143 million verdict - the highest award for a vaccine-related injury in United States history.
Throughout his career, Mr. Caldwell has served in various roles as a Partner, Shareholder, and Counsel, practicing and supervising/training attorneys in fast-paced settings. He has conducted dozens of jury and bench trials from initial pleadings to verdicts. Additionally, Mr. Caldwell has played a crucial role in training new attorneys and teaching Continuing Legal Education (CLE) classes on National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act practice and issues. He has further demonstrated expertise in managing high-exposure insurance defense litigation in Florida State courts, tackling complex construction defect liability defense cases, and litigating intricate vaccine adverse event cases before the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
Mr. Caldwell attended Rutgers Law School in Camden, New Jersey, where he obtained his Juris Doctor in 1993, and he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Rutgers College in May of 1989. During law school, he was a member of the Rutgers Law Journal and published "Bifurcate, Litigate, and Substantiate: A One-Two-Three Punch in Simplifying CERCLA Trials" in the journal.
Licensed in the States of Florida, New Jersey, and New York, Mr. Caldwell is admitted to practice before the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, U.S. District Courts for the District of New Jersey, Middle District of Florida, Southern District of New York, and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
Outside of his legal practice, Mr. Caldwell is a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and has been a Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America) leader since 2005. He currently resides in Manatee County with his wife and pampered pets.
