Laura D. Eschleman is a partner in the Atlanta office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A., where she specializes in medical malpractice defense. Ms. Eschleman handles a diverse range of practices that include insurance coverage, premises liability, product liability, professional malpractice defense, trucking and transportation, general litigation, catastrophic injury, and wrongful death.
Ms. Eschleman has represented an extensive roster of medical professionals across a spectrum of specialties, from anesthesiologists and cardiologists to surgeons and emergency medicine physicians, in intricate medical malpractice cases. She also provides legal counsel to medical professionals facing Medicare, Medicaid, quality improvement organization, and private health insurance company audits and administrative actions. Moreover, she guides medical practices and physicians through the transition to a concierge practice model and offers advice on navigating the ongoing regulatory challenges such a transition may entail.
In addition to her work with medical practitioners, Ms. Eschleman extends her expertise to assist healthcare companies, staffing firms, and mental healthcare facilities in cases involving issues such as negligent hiring, retention, credentialing, professional negligence, HIPAA breaches, intentional torts, and insurance bad faith claims.
Ms. Eschleman also represents insurance companies in cases involving bad faith and coverage disputes. With a national practice, she handles cases across the United States and has successfully tried cases to jury verdict in Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, and South Carolina. She holds licenses to practice law in Alabama, Georgia, and Missouri and has been granted pro hac vice admission to practice in courts in Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. Additionally, she has worked on cases in Arizona, California, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Tennessee, and Washington.
Ms. Eschleman is extensively involved in the defense bar and currently serves as the Chair of DRI's Healthcare and Medical Liability Committee. She is also a member of FDCC and has been named a Super Lawyer for Medical Malpractice Defense, along with multiple other awards.
A native of Atlanta, Ms. Eschleman earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2005, and her Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from the University of Georgia in 2002. During her time in law school, she held positions on the Editorial Board and served as an Articles Editor of the Journal of Intellectual Property Law. She also gained invaluable trial experience under the Third-Year Prosecutor's Act, participating in the prosecution clinic, and working in the Office of the District Attorney.
Outside of her legal practice, Ms. Eschleman has been dedicated to her community involvement. In 2016, she was elected to the Board of Directors for Lekotek of Georgia, a local non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the inclusion of children with disabilities in their families, schools, and communities through the provision of accessible play, adapted toys, technology, information, and resources, serving on the board until the end of 2020.
She is licensed to practice law in Georgia, Alabama, and Missouri, and is admitted to the Georgia Court of Appeals, Supreme Court of Georgia, U.S. District Court for the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
