Marvin K. Pettus is a partner with the New York office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. With over 30 years of experience, Mr. Pettus has extensive knowledge in the representation of companies, commercial property owners, and insurance common carriers in personal injury and premises liability matters. His practice includes the representation of companies in labor law, employment discrimination and all areas of negligence including product liability, premises liability, vehicle liability and common carrier liability. In corporate matters, he prepares, reviews, and negotiates contracts; employee hiring, retention and severance management; commercial leasing, intellectual property protection, and franchise agreement review and negotiation. In addition to representing corporations, his practice includes the representation of unions in collective bargaining matters. His practice extends to assisting families with estate planning including preparation of Wills, Living Wills, Trusts, healthcare proxies, Power of Attorney and the transfer of property.
Mr. Pettus co-founded his law practice established in New York City in 2005, Pettus & Williams PLLC. Previously, and for 10 years, he was a solo practitioner at a New York City law firm handling personal injury and premises liability defense trials and acted as outside general counsel on matters relating to residential and commercial real estate transactions, and wills, trusts, and estates. Mr. Pettus was also a partner with a New York City law firm handling residential and commercial real estate transactions and represented a variety of legal matters ranging from criminal to matrimonial. He served as a staff attorney with the Legal Aid Society Criminal Defense Division, Queens, New York handling felony criminal cases from arrest to trial.
Mr. Pettus received his Juris Doctor from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in 1987 and Bachelor of Fine Arts from Syracuse University, New York, in 1984. He is a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
He is licensed to practice law in New York and is admitted in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and is a member of the New York State Bar and the National Bar Association.
Mr. Pettus is a lecturer on trial techniques and advocacy. He has lectured for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA), Hofstra University School of Law, New York Law School, Seton Hall Law School, Suffolk University Law School, Boston, MA; and Legal Services Office of Albuquerque, New Mexico. And from 2000-2016 served as a Grader for the New York State Bar Exam.
