W. Michael Lauth is a partner in the Chicago office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. Mr. Lauth's practice focuses on medical malpractice, long-term care negligence for insurers and self-insured clients, professional liability, products liability and personal injury actions in both state court and federal court. A component of his practice includes insurance defense coverage litigation and the defense of insurance-related claims. Some examples of his results are: conducting physician depositions, expert discovery and evidence depositions in various personal injury, products liability and medical malpractice cases. He has negotiated successful settlements, attended mediations and arbitrations, and has argued discovery motions and motions for summary judgments, and other procedural motions. He has experience handling all aspects of litigation from inception of matter through trial, settlement, arbitration and mediation on behalf of insurance carriers and representative national counsel.
Before joining QPWB, Mr. Lauth was an associate with a regional civil litigation law firm specializing in medical negligence trials, general tort litigation, and insurance coverage disputes. Here, he defended medical malpractice claims and personal injury actions including negligence-based premises liability and product liability claims. Mr. Lauth commenced private practice with a Chicago law office handling plaintiff's personal injury cases which he handled from inception of matter through trial, arbitration, mediation and settlement.
Mr. Lauth received his Juris Doctor with a Health Law Certificate from the DePaul University College of Law, Chicago, Illinois in May 2014 and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science from Indiana University in 2010. While in law school, he served as a mentor, was a member of the DePaul National Health Law Moot Court and served as team captain, and he obtained the highest grade of membership when he became a Fellow of the DePaul Health Law Institute.
Mr. Lauth is licensed to practice law in Illinois and is admitted in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys. His professional affiliations include membership in the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, where he is certified in deposition courses.
He is conversant in Spanish with basic reading and writing skills, using it as an attorney to interview witnesses and translate medical records.
