Michael L. Vittori is a partner in the Chicago office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A.  He is a senior trial lawyer with over 35 years of litigation experience focusing on defending a wide range of medical specialties and related medical issues. Mr. Vittori is included in Chicago Top Rated Lawyers and has attained an AV® Preeminent(TM) rating by Martindale Hubbell Law Directory. The rating is the highest level secured by his peers and the judiciary for ethical standards and legal ability.  Mr. Vittori's practice focuses on defending all types of health care professionals. He represents health care systems, hospitals, physicians, dentists, allied health providers, ambulatory surgery centers, home health agencies, hospices, drug and medical device manufacturers, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and other long term care facilities in both state court and federal court and represents parties before state and federal agencies, including the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. He has significant experience in large settlement negotiation, mediation, and arbitration.

Mr. Vittori also has extensive knowledge of dementia and dementia-related conditions, which has resulted in successful representations of memory care centers and assisted-living facilities. He also has expertise on the issue of attorney's fees and costs related to nursing home litigation.

Mr. Vittori's civil litigation practice also includes catastrophic injury cases, with particular experience in matters involving closed head injuries.

Representative Experience - Medical Malpractice

Throughout his career, Mr. Vittori has successfully represented numerous cases to verdict on behalf of healthcare professionals in medical malpractice including general surgeons, radiologists, internists, dentists, psychiatrists, nurses, pharmacists, orthopedic surgeons, obstetricians/gynecologists, psychologists, fertility specialists, emergency room physicians, podiatrists and chiropractors.

He represents various hospitals in Illinois and also has successfully defended nursing homes, psychiatric institutions, pharmaceutical institutions, fertility clinics, vein clinics, dialysis centers and assisted living facilities.

Types of Representations Defended

  • Orthopedic surgeons regarding issues such as nonunion fractures and a percutaneous repair of a ruptured Achilles tendon
  • Plastic surgeons in cases related to cosmetic and reconstructive surgery
  • Cases involving infections, cancer, surgery, and sexual assaults in psychiatric units
  • Medical device cases such as pulse oximeters, ventilation machines and surgical lasers
  • Emergency backup power systems in hospitals
  • Numerous cases involving prescription drugs

Before joining QPWB, Mr. Vittori was a partner with a national defense litigation law firm in Chicago practicing in all of his current areas of practice. He was supervising partner of the Medical Malpractice & Health Care team in the Chicago office.  While there, he created an ADR agreement for one of his clients used as an alternative and cost-effective means for resolving medical malpractice claim. He has succeeded in litigating these ADR agreements in the Circuit Court of Cook County and other Illinois state courts.

Mr. Vittori received his Juris Doctor cum laude from The John Marshall Law School, Chicago, Illinois in 1986 and Bachelor of Arts form the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 1982.

Mr. Vittori is licensed to practice law in Illinois and is admitted in the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Illinois.
