Monica Medina is an associate in the Miami office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A She is an accomplished trial attorney with over 25 years of experience handling insurance carrier, risk management, and regulatory compliance matters for the healthcare industry. Ms. Medina's expertise extends to various areas, including automotive liability, product liability, premises liability, nursing home claims, medical malpractice, business and commercial litigation, construction defects, workers' compensation defense, bad faith, and catastrophic personal injury matters.
Ms. Medina specializes in providing comprehensive legal counsel to first-party property insurance carriers on matters pertaining to litigation, risk, and business strategy. She negotiates and drafts contracts to determine coverage issues and assists with compliance matters. Before joining QPWB, she litigated plaintiffs' auto, premises, and negligent security matters, which included analyzing insurance policies and contracts for coverage determination, exclusions, and devising contract interpretation and construction arguments for more than 10 years. During her tenure, she prepared 12 cases for trial and sat first chair in 3 out of 5 cases. Earlier in her career, Ms. Medina represented plaintiffs in medical malpractice and products liability matters where she analyzed insurance policies and contracts for coverage determination, exclusions, and devised contract interpretation for construction arguments. Additionally, she prosecuted declaratory judgment actions, attended hearings, depositions, EUOs, supervised support staff and junior attorneys. Ms. Medina has handled complex insurance defense litigation, including automobile products liability for a national motor vehicle distributor. Attending hearings, depositions, mediations, and preparing dozens of cases for trial. Notably, she served as an attorney in the Risk Management Department for a national bank where she researched, analyzed, and reviewed workers' compensation and property claims, and drafted settlement agreements. In 1994, Ms. Medina obtained her Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law. Prior to law school, she attended the University of Cincinnati, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in 1991. She is fluent in Spanish and has a working knowledge of Portuguese and French. Ms. Medina is licensed to practice law in Florida.
