Melinda Shabka is a partner in the Tampa office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. She manages a team of attorneys that focus their general defense litigation practice in the areas of first party property and complex general liability relating to personal injury, negligent security, construction defect, wrongful death, premise liability, products liability and auto-negligence liability, including those involving personal automobile policies, commercial policies and rideshare policies.
Ms. Shabka represents clients in civil matters throughout the state of Florida in all phases of litigation including depositions, court hearings, mediations, settlement negotiations, arbitrations, trials and post litigation. She regularly collaborates with prestigious experts across the country in various fields to investigate facts relating to liability, injury and damage assessment.
During her tenure as an attorney, Ms. Shabka has handled a vast number of cases from both the defense and plaintiff perspectives through trial. She started her career as an insurance defense attorney, went to the Plaintiffs' side for several years before returning to exclusively handling general insurance defense work again for the past decade.
Prior to joining QPWB, she was a managing attorney at a prominent Tampa insurance defense law firm, handling general liability disputes and workers' compensation claims. She has handled civil cases in courts throughout the state of Florida. Ms. Shabka's past experience also includes all aspects of residential and commercial real estate transactions, family law and workers' compensation claims. Federally across the country, Ms. Shabka has handled Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act and Defense Base Act cases through trial. Additionally, Ms. Shabka is a Certified County Court Mediator.
Ms. Shabka graduated summa cum laude from an accelerated joint degree program at St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida, receiving simultaneously her Juris Doctor and Master of Science. While in law school, she was editor of the St. Thomas University Human Rights Law Review, received the book award in Advance Legal Research and Writing and served as a Florida Supreme Court Certified Legal Intern. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Boston University.
Ms. Shabka is admitted to practice law in the state courts of Florida and New Jersey, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida and the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
