Philip J. Kantor is of counsel in the Ft. Lauderdale office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A., focusing his practice on trials in state and federal courts and before arbitrators.  He is particularly experienced in complex commercial litigation with an emphasis relating to telecommunications, FDUTPA consumer claims, intellectual property, franchise and franchise compliance, access to premises, contractual and healthcare.  He also advises clients on general business and transactional matters.

For 13 years, Mr. Kantor was a partner with QPWB and represented the nation's largest cable television company in South Florida and other local cable and telecommunication companies.  He advises his telecommunications clients on a wide-range of issues, including commercial matters representing potential cost savings and revenue generation opportunities in multiple technology environments.  Mr. Kantor also has counseled on a significant number of landmark cases in which he represented cable television companies and/or programmers.  In addition to conventional litigation, he has handled contractual agreements with subcontractors, vendors and homeowners' and condominium associations, as well as service agreements.  He has also assisted clients in buying and selling cable television systems.

He is a member of The Florida Bar and is admitted to practice in the, United States District Courts for the Middle and Southern (including Trial Bar) Districts of Florida.  Mr. Kantor has attained the highest peer review rating of "AV" in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.

Mr. Kantor is a member of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer's Appellate Practice Group. He has been lead counsel in appellate matters filed in all of Florida's appellate courts and in cases briefed and argued in the federal appellate courts for the Fourth, Eighth, Ninth and Eleventh United States Circuit Courts of Appeal

In 2001, he was lead counsel in a $2.4 million verdict for a personal injury matter; the fifth largest verdict in Miami Dade County that year.  Mr. Kantor was also involved in a breach of contract matter that was tried in Broward County which received a Jury Verdict published in "Top Florida Verdicts and Settlements of 2012."

Prior to joining QPWB in 2008, Mr. Kantor practiced from his own law firm in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., where he represented cable, communications and other companies in appellate, business, and general practice.  He was previously a partner with Duane Morris in Miami, Fla., and with Frates, Bienstock, et al., in Miami, Fla.

Mr. Kantor received his B.A. in May 1981 from the University of Texas at Austin, Texas, where he was honored as a Texas Goodfellow.  He earned his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables, Fla. in May 1984.

Mr. Kantor has been a speaker at industry forums and at national and local conferences.  He has lectured throughout the United States on media, technology and international telecommunications issues.  His seminars and lectures are well-attended and participants have included State and municipal government leaders, clients, representatives of property owners, developers, carriers and suppliers, lawyers, and other professionals.  Mr. Kantor frequently conducts company and in-house educational seminars for his clients on various topics.

  • In his community, Mr. Kantor served two terms (1995-96 and 1997-98) as president of the West Pembroke Pines Optimist Club; a service organization whose goal is to better the lives of the community's youth, sponsoring both sports and academic activities, serving over 3,000 children.  He also served as lieutenant governor from 1996-97 and as secretary/treasurer from 1999-2000 of the South Florida District, Optimist International.
