R. Alex Clar is an associate in the Farmington Hills Hub of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A., focusing his practice on insurance defense litigation, including automobile accident defense, first-party PIP and provider suits, employment practices liability, and toxic tort defense. His diverse practice also includes handling matters related to construction defect claims, contract disputes, discrimination defense, and environmental liability.
Mr. Clar brings extensive experience to his role, having previously worked at several insurance defense firms where he litigated No-Fault and workers' compensation matters, as well as complex toxic tort claims. He has also advised and represented small businesses in commercial disputes, including contract enforcement and fee recovery. Before returning to the Midwest, Mr. Clar spent several years living in Hong Kong, where he served as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Hong Kong, teaching torts and common law, experience that continues to shape his analytical and global perspective on litigation.
Outside of his practice, Mr. Clar actively contributes to his community. He currently serves on a volunteer board for the City of Farmington Hills and previously held a board position with the Michigan Asian Pacific Islander Bar Association (MAPABA), demonstrating his ongoing commitment to civic engagement and professional diversity.
Mr. Clar holds a Master of Laws from The University of Hong Kong, earned in 2007. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1998, following his undergraduate studies at Lawrence University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1994.
Mr. Clar is admitted to practice law in Michigan and California.
