Tara A. Zimmerman is a partner in the Orlando office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. She focuses on defending long-term care providers, assisted living facilities, healthcare providers, hospitals and acute-care providers, nurse staffing, home health agencies and skilled nursing facilities in arbitration, mediation, trial and appeal on claims of negligence, alleged elder abuse and Board Complaints throughout Florida and Pennsylvania. Ms. Zimmerman's practice is also emphasized in the areas of products liability, premise liability, negligent security, labor and employment, and workers' compensation defense.
Ms. Zimmerman is deeply embedded in the health care industry; for over 10 years, she has represented physicians, healthcare providers, and health care entities such as nursing homes and long-term care facilities in a wide range of matters, managing all aspects of a case from inception through trial, mediation, arbitration, and post-trial; conducting depositions, hearings, and discovery, including proactive risk-management counsel; she also has significant experience representing parties before state and federal courts and agencies, and handling formal and independent/informal dispute resolution.
Prior to joining QPWB, Ms. Zimmerman was general counsel to a long-term care, post-acute and comprehensive rehabilitation facility in Tampa, Florida. For over six years, she managed outside counsel and internal processing of claims and litigation in professional liability, general liability, EEOC claims including employment practices liability issues, wrongful termination, and workers' compensation claims. Ms. Zimmerman provided legal guidance in the areas of professional liability, healthcare and nursing home regulations; she handled human resources and employment law issues. Previously, she was a partner with a civil litigation defense law firm specializing in health care law in St. Petersburg, Florida. Ms. Zimmerman focused on medical malpractice and nursing home defense; she was responsible for all aspects of cases, from inception through trial, arbitration, and/or settlement.
She was also a litigation associate with two Tampa, Florida law firms specializing in health care law and insurance defense litigation where she prepared cases for trial, mediation or arbitration. She commenced private practice in Pennsylvania in 2005 with a law office where she practiced general civil and commercial litigation, insurance defense, personal injury, and construction defect.
Ms. Zimmerman received her Juris Doctor cum laude from Widener University School of Law, Pennsylvania in May 2003 and a Bachelor of Science in August 1998 from Pennsylvania State University. While in law school, she was a member of the Widener Law Journal.
Ms. Zimmerman is licensed to practice law in Florida and Pennsylvania.
She has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Miami, Tampa Division as a professor of Torts and Florida Civil Procedures.
