Terri L. Bernal is a partner in the Nashville office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. With over 25 years of civil litigation experience, Ms. Bernal leads a diverse practice covering labor and employment, workers' compensation defense, civil rights, government liability, retail and premises liability, products liability, arson and fraud, trucking and vehicle litigation, and insurance law. She defends clients at all stages of civil litigation, including conducting successful negotiations and mediations to reduce clients' potential exposure at trial.
Ms. Bernal is an accomplished civil attorney with expertise in providing counsel to employers, government entities, corporations, and individuals in various areas of civil law, including general liability, workers' compensation, and employment law matters, in Federal and State courts. Guiding clients through the assessment of employment law issues, she oversees all litigation cases ranging from small claims to multi-million dollar matters involving complex issues of law to avoid exposure to discrimination claims resulting from workers' compensation injuries.
With a successful track record of defending civil litigation matters, Ms. Bernal has made appearances before the Georgia State Board of Workers' Compensation, Tennessee Claims Commission, Tennessee Department of Labor, Bureau of Workers' Compensation, Tennessee Department of Labor - Division of Employment in the Unemployment Commission, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Additionally, she served on a Trucking Rapid Response Team and opened the first Tennessee office of a northeastern regional firm before joining QPWB.
As the previous Tennessee Attorney General for the Civil Rights and Claims Division, Ms. Bernal handled civil claims for property damage, negligence, and civil rights allegations against state agencies and departments. Notably, as a Staff Member for U.S. Congress, she assisted a Congresswoman with research on pending legislation and constituent services
Graduating cum laude from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Ms. Bernal received her Bachelor of Science in Political Science in 1993. Following her undergraduate degree, she earned her Juris Doctorate from Baylor University School of Law in 1996 and studied abroad in the Baylor Law School Summer Exchange Program in Mexico.
Ms. Bernal actively participates in presentations, seminars, and speaking engagements on various legal issues. Licensed to practice law in Tennessee and Georgia, she is admitted to practice in all levels of State Court in Tennessee and Georgia, including the Federal District Court for the Northern, Eastern, Western, and Middle Districts of Georgia.
