Thomas A. Valdez is a partner in the Tampa office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. Mr. Valdez serves as Chair of the firm's Appellate Practice Group, which provides clients with both traditional appellate services; and proactive trial support services before during and after trial; and devotes the majority of his time to the handling of appellate and appellate-related matters. Mr. Valdez, who began his career as a litigator, devotes the remainder of his time to the defending long term care, medical malpractice, general liability, commercial and construction claims; and engaging in Complex Motion Practice as a member of the firm's Litigation and Trial Practice Group.
Mr. Valdez earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Finance) from the University of Florida in 1991 and a Juris Doctor, with high honors, from the Florida State University College of Law in 1997. During law school, he served as the President of the Florida State University Moot Court Team, was an active member of the Spanish-American Law Student Association, and was recognized for outstanding advocacy (Inductee, Order of the Barristers), leadership (Inductee, Seminole Torchbearer's Leadership Honorary) and pro bono work.
Mr. Valdez first joined Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer in 1998, after spending a year as an associate in a construction and commercial litigation firm. He was named a partner in 2003 and (with the exception of the time period between October 2003 and June 2006, which he spent as a founding shareholder with the firm of McCumber, Inclan, Daniels, Valdez, Buntz & Ferrera) has been a member of the firm ever since.
Mr. Valdez is a member of The Florida Bar, the Pennsylvania Bar, and is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. During the course of his career, he has litigated and tried cases in courts throughout Florida; and has handled appeals in all of Florida's District Courts of Appeal, the Florida Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Mr. Valdez has numerous published/written appellate opinions to his credit. The following is a partial list of those opinions:
