In tribute to the resilience of Native American communities and honoring one's roots while excelling in the modern legal landscape, we recognize Native American Heritage Month and commend the contributions of Michael R. Ayers and Susan H. Briggs. Their exemplary leadership at QPWB is a beacon that guides both current and future generations, underscoring the strength drawn from a diverse heritage that enriches our nation's legal field.
Michael R. Ayers exemplifies the fusion of traditional values with contemporary legal expertise. Representing the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, he is the managing partner of our the Reno, Nevada hub. Michael keeps the flame of his culture alive by engaging in activities that hold profound significance for his tribe. One such activity is lacrosse, a game cherished by the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe and a tradition that Michael has passed down to his two children. Lacrosse is not just a sport for Michael; it's a connection to his roots and a reminder of the proud legacy of the Iroquois Confederacy.
Ayers reflected on his journey saying, "my connection to the tribe continues to instill the values and ethical considerations that have guided me as a lawyer and advocate for my clients. With great recognition of my heritage and values, Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer made me a managing partner."
Professionally, Ayers is at the forefront of complex litigation, effortlessly navigating state, federal, and tribal courts. His approach integrates the collective wisdom of his ancestors with a forward-thinking legal strategy, propelling him to the esteemed position of managing partner in the firm.
Susan H. Briggs brings the indomitable spirit of the Lumbee Tribe to her role in the Charlotte, North Carolina hub. Her journey from the sandhills of North Carolina to the forefront of legal defense is a beacon of perseverance, drawing strength from her lineage of hardworking sharecroppers. "As the first lawyer in my family, I hope to inspire indigenous youth, providing an example of what we can do through hard work," remarked Susan.
"Native Americans are employed in many occupations in the United States and remain proud business owners across a vast spectrum of enterprises. I represent businesses and institutions as a workers' compensation defense attorney and bring a work ethic that has been fostered by the generations before me who knew the value of a job well done. Working hard and providing top-notch client service is ingrained in my indigenous community and in the legal advice I provide to my clients."
As a workers' compensation defense attorney, Briggs' heritage fuels her dedication to advocacy and equality, mirrored in her ascent to managing partner. Her leadership embodies QPWB's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, a principle that recently garnered the firm a prestigious D.E.I. award from the Defense Research Institute.
